Chart 26.1 is a line chart showing retail and wholesale sales from 2000 to 2011.

Both retail and wholesale sales increased steadily from 2000 to 2011, except for a drop in 2009.

Wholesale sales increased from $370.8 billion in 2000 to $533.3 billion in 2008 before declining to $496.5 billion in 2009. They then rose to a high of $564.4 billion in 2011.

Retail sales rose from $287.8 billion in 2000 to $427.9 billion in 2008 before declining to $415.4 billion in 2009. They then increased to a high of $456.4 billion in 2011.
