In 1996, a new Aboriginal identity question similar to the one asked in the 1991 APS was included in the census. This same question was also asked in the 2001 and 2006 Censuses. This question reads as follows:

18  Is this person an Aboriginal person, that is, North American Indian, Métis or Inuit (Eskimo)?
