Sales of poultry meat totalled $2.3 billion in 2010,
down 3.9% from 2009.
Canadian farmers produced 1.2 million tones of poultry meat
in 2010. Chicken, including stewing hens, which accounts for 87%
of all poultry meat produced, is up 1.2% from 2009. Turkey meat
production stood at 159 thousand tonnes in 2010, a decrease
of 4.5% from the previous year.
Egg production increased in 2010
The value of egg sales reached $935.9 million in 2010,
an increase of 0.3% from the previous year.
Egg production was 636.3 million dozen, an increase of 2.5% from 2009.
The central region produces over half of the eggs in Canada with Ontario producing 239.2 million
dozen eggs and Quebec producing 111.6 million dozen eggs.
