Analysis
In April 2015, take-offs and landings at 114 Canadian airports without air traffic control towers reached a total of 51,453 movements. Six airports, each with more than 2,000 movements, accounted for 33% of the month's activity: Peterborough, Ontario (4,256 movements), Moosonee, Ontario (3,822), Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador (2,385), Red Lake, Ontario (2,136), Comox, British Columbia (2,093), and Muskoka, Ontario (2,076).
Year over year comparisons were possible for 114 airports. These airports reported a decrease of 1,160 (-2.2%) in total aircraft movements from April 2014. The large drop at Peterborough (-2,384 movements) was sufficient to offset increases at Muskoka (+710), Comox (+581) and Red Lake (+511).
During April 2015, there were 36,844 itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) reported by 95 airports with Moosonee (3,742 movements) recording the greatest number.
Forty-six airports reported 12,133 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport). Peterborough remained the most active site with 3,916 take-offs and landings. Activity at this airport represents 32% of the total local movements reported.
