This report using first results from the Labour Force Survey on the immigrant labour market in Canada was made possible through a partnership with Human Resources and Social Development Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Statistics Canada.

Thanks go to the reviewers from within the Labour Force Survey who provided constructive comments: Peter Morrison, Tracey Leesti, Christel Le Petit, Vincent Ferrao and Jane Lin. Thanks also to Abdurrahman Aydemir, Tina Chui and Chantal Grondin for their subject matter expertise with respect to immigrants to Canada.

I would like to give special thanks to Jason Gilmore and Dominique Pinard from the Labour Force Survey, who provided insightful comments, and invaluable assistance in the area of editing as well as statistical support.

Additionally, I would like to thank Stan Kustec, from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, who spent numerous hours in consultation regarding various immigration policies and their potential impact on the data being collected by the Labour Force Survey. These consultations were instrumental in the analysis of the results. Thanks also to the other reviewers from Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Elizabeth Ruddick, Martha Justus, Eden Thompson and Colleen Dempsey.

Comments from reviewers Dave Wallace, Gilles Claveau and Fernand Comeau from Human Resources and Social Development Canada were also much appreciated.

Thanks to the following people for their essential support in the areas of production and composition, marketing, data and chart verification, style editing and translation: Maxine Davidson, Danielle Boucher, Marc Lévesque, Serge Mageau, Gisèle Parent, Marie-Josée Cadieux, and the team of translators.

Finally, Statistics Canada would like to acknowledge the most important contributors to this report–the respondents to the surveys used in the publication. Our sincere gratitude is extended to these respondents. This report would not have been possible without their co-operation.

Note of appreciation

Canada owes the success of its statistical system to a long-standing partnership between Statistics Canada, the citizens of Canada, its businesses, governments and other institutions. Accurate and timely statistical information could not be produced without their continued co-operation and goodwill.
