Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics public-use microdata file, 1998

The cross-sectional public-use microdata file for the 1998 Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) is now available. With this release, Statistics Canada is continuing the transition from the Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) to SLID as the source of detailed cross-sectional household income data.

Employment dynamics, 1997/98

The number of businesses that employ people edged up from 955,000 in 1997 to 969,000 in 1998, according to a database that tracks all businesses that issue T4 slips. These data provide approximate measures for the entry and exit of employers and lend insight into how employer firms create and shed jobs.

Labour productivity and multifactor productivity, 2000 (revised)

This release updates detailed industry data on labour and multifactor productivity in Canada's business sector. These revisions came from a normal process used in Statistics Canada's System of National Accounts, and from an Agency initiative to improve statistical coverage of surveys in the services sector.

Education in Canada summarizes data on institutions, enrolment, graduates, teachers and finance for all levels of education. The publication also provides demographic data from the Census and educational attainment, labour force participation rates and unemployment rates of the adult population from the Labour Force Survey.

Net farm income and farm cash receipts, 2000

Net cash income for farmers-the difference between their cash receipts and operating expenses-increased in 2000 for the first time in three years, even though crop producers saw revenues fall for the third straight year to a six-year low.

Government finance: Revenue, expenditure and surplus, 2000/01

The fiscal pendulum swung to a strong government surplus of $25.7 billion in 2000/01, in tandem with robust growth in the economy. This has contributed to a $70.9 billion shift in government finances over the last six years.
