The rising profile of women academics

Over the past several decades, women have made significant inroads into many traditionally male-dominated occupations. One of these is university teaching. The article looks at the growth in the number of women teaching full time at Canadian universities between 1990-91 and 2002-03, examining changes in their representation by academic rank, tenure status, and field of instruction.

Fact sheet on Taxfilers: 1972-2002

Starting with this issue, Perspectives on Labour and Income will publish a thematic set of indicators highlighting income and consumption taxes paid by Canadians. Historical perspectives on taxfilers, type of tax paid (income, GST, sales), vertical and horizontal equity of income tax, filers paying no income tax and those receiving tax credits, as well as international comparisons of tax loads will be included. In this first instalment, a historical perspective on taxfilers is presented in 15 charts.
