Registered Apprenticeship Training

Description: The purpose of the survey is to gather information on registered apprentices who receive training and tradesman who obtain certification. The information is made available to federal and provincial agencies and departments, associations, non-government agencies and researchers.

Who/what is surveyed: All registered apprenticeship programs, including in-class and on-the-job training

How the data is collected: Extraction from administrative files

Geographic detail: Canada, provinces and territories

Demographic detail: Gender, age (most provinces)

Information collected:
- Registered apprenticeship training for trades with or without Interprovincial Standards Examination: enrolment and graduation statistics
- Apprenticeship training: apprentices, registration detail: by trade program, by programme duration, gender and age
- Journeymen certificates granted with or without Interprovincial Standards Seal, by trade

Frequency: Annual

Sample size: 12 reporting units (provincial departments responsible for apprenticeship programs)

Data availability: 1991 to 1997

Reference period: Calendar year

Release dates: One year after the reference calendar year

Response rates: 100%

Products and services:
Standard tables showing aggregate enrolment and completion information by trades and provinces are available. Gender and age information is only available by special request.
