Labour market and income data guide December 2000 Earnings Supplement Project Description: The Earning Supplement Project is a federal project conducted by Statistics Canada on behalf of the Human Resources Development Canada and managed by the Social Research Demonstration Corporation. It is a research demonstration project designed to determine the effectiveness of an earnings supplement incentive as a means of helping employment insurance claimants return to work. The survey evaluates the supplement's effect on employment rates, earnings, employment insurance receipt, duration of unemployment, and supplement's cost-effectiveness. Who/what was surveyed: Participants enrolled in the Earnings Supplement Project in the selected centers of Employment Canada: Granby , Toronto, Oshawa, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon. How the data were collected: Computer-assisted telephone interviews Geographic detail: Granby, Toronto, Oshawa, Winnipeg and Saskatoon Demographic detail: age, sex, language, ethnic origin Information collected: Age, sex, ethnicity, language, job search methods, earnings and income Frequency: One-time only Sample size: Approximately 8,500 persons Reference period: 15 months after enrolment in the project Release dates: May 1999 Response rates: 89% What makes the data valuable: Allows an assessment of the impact of an earning supplement as an incentive to re-employ quickly the displaced workers Products and services:
