Note 1.

"Full-time equivalent (FTE) educators" is defined as the number of full-time educators as of September 30th (or as close as possible thereafter) of the school year, plus the sum of part-time educators according to their percentage of a full-time employment allocation (determined by the province or territory). The term "educators" refers to teachers, school administrators and pedagogical support.

Figures may not add up to totals because of rounding.

Note 4.

Excludes publicly funded hospital and provincial schools, care, treatment and correctional facilities. The increase in 2007/2008 is partially due to the inclusion of "long-term occasional teachers", which were not counted before 2007/2008. Data for 2010/2011, which include early childhood educators for the first time, are not comparable with those for previous years.

Note 5.

All educators in Lloydminster are included in Saskatchewan's counts and none of them are captured in the counts for Alberta. Includes educators in provincially funded schools (including "associated independent" and "historic" high schools) and excluding "independent" "First Nations" schools and postsecondary sites.

Note 6.

Data for Alberta prior to 2004/2005 are not comparable with more recent data due to a change in methodology. All educators in Lloydminster are included in Saskatchewan's counts and none of them are captured in the counts for Alberta.

Notes: Due to the nature of the Elementary-Secondary Education Survey (ESES) data collection, these data are updated on an ongoing basis and are therefore subject to further revisions. These data are for publicly funded schools only and do not include private schools and federal schools. Care should be taken with cross jurisdictional comparisons. The proportion of educators (comprising a mix of teachers, administrators and pedagogical support) and their respective remuneration differ in each jurisdiction.
