Annual Health Indicators print publication

This year, the in-focus topic for the report Health Indicators 2012 is Avoidable Mortality. This report introduces three new indicators that examine the subset of deaths that could have potentially been avoided through public health practices, prevention and policies, and the provision of timely and effective health care.

This report celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Health Indicators project. It examines the health of Canadians by focusing on demography, health status, health behaviours, and the environment.

The Health Indicators Project: Report from the Third Consensus Conference on Health Indicators (82-230-X)

Making Sense of Health Rankings (82-582-X)

The methodological paper is designed to help readers understand and assess reports that rank the health status or health system performance of a country, province or jurisdiction.

It outlines the components and processes that underlie health rankings, explores why such rankings can be difficult to interpret and includes a plain-language checklist to use as a critical evaluative resource when reading health-ranking reports.
