Pregnancy outcomesPregnancy outcomes presents pregnancy counts and rates for the years 1974 to the most current year available. Counts and rates are also presented separately for the three major outcomes of pregnancy - live births, induced abortions, and fetal loss. Statistics on live births, induced abortions and fetal loss are available separately in various other products produced by Statistics Canada. The purpose of this particular product, however, is to bring together all outcome statistics into one product in order to provide total pregnancy statistics and to facilitate the analysis of each outcome within the context of other outcomes. The statistics are presented according to the calendar year in which the pregnancy terminated and not the year in which conception took place. For each data year, the statistics are presented by the age group of the woman and her province or territory of residence. Only pregnancies occurring to Canadian residents are included. The times series used in Pregnancy outcomes begins in 1974, the first year for which demographic characteristics (e.g., age) were available at the national level for women obtaining induced abortions.
