This vertical bar chart illustrates the percentage of Canadians who consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least twelve times a year by age group and sex in 2009.

The y-axis is measured by percentages and increases by increments of ten from 0 to 50.

Along the x-axis are the age groups. From left to right, the age groups are: All ages; 12 to 15; 16 and 17; 18 and 19; 20 to 34; 35 to 44; 45 to 54; 55 to 64; and 65  and older. Each age category shows two vertical bars; one for males and one for females.

Of Canadians all ages, 24.8% of males, and 9.9% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 12 to 15, 1.3% E of males, and 1.2% E of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 16 and 17, 21.8% of males, and 15.0% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 18 and 19, 41.6% of males, and 28.0% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 20 to 34, 40.5% of males, and 19.7% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 35 to 44, 25.0% of males, and 8.8% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 45 to 54, 25.2% of males, and 10.1% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 55 to 64, 21.0% of males, and 4.2% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Of Canadians aged 65 and older, 8.3% of males, and 1.3% of females consumed five or more drinks per occasion at least 12 times a year.

Note: E indicates value should be used with caution (coefficient of variation 16.6% to 33.3%).
