table is based on the deceased's usual place of residence.
The population estimates used for the 2004 mortality
rate calculations are July 1, 2004 updated postcensal estimates,
adjusted for net census undercoverage and include non-permanent residents.
These population estimates appear in the publication "Annual Demographic Statistics, 2005"
(catalogue number 91-213-XIB/XPB).
The cause of death tabulated is the underlying
cause of death. This is defined as (a) the disease or injury which initiated
the train of events leading directly to death, or (b) the circumstances of
the accident or violence which produced the fatal injury. The underlying cause
is selected from the conditions listed on the medical certificate of cause
of death.
