Hierarchical structure of NAICS

Figure 3 illustrates the hierarchical structure of the NAICS, which uses six digits and has five levels of aggregation.  The figure shows five arrows.  Under the first arrow on the left is the label Sector, with the arrow pointing up to two digits (xx) indicating the highest level of aggregation for the NAICS code. The first two digits (xx) of the NAICS code represent the Sector. The next arrow shows that the next digit(x) in the NAICS represents the Sub-sector.  The next three arrows show what the last three digits of a six digit code represent:    the Industry Group(x), the Industry(x), and the National Industry (x).
