The Y axis measures percentages by increments of five, from 0 to 30%.

The X axis from left to right represents females and males.

Each gender is represented by two groups of three bars. The groups represent the years1999 and 2004, the two first bars represent two types of unions, current and previous, and the third bar represents the total.

In 1999, 4% of females reported spousal violence in current unions in the past 5 years; 28% of females reported spousal violence in previous unions, for a total of 8%.

In 2004, 3% of females reported spousal violence in current unions in the past 5 years; 21% of females reported spousal violence in previous unions, for a total of 7%.

In 1999, 4% of males reported spousal violence in current unions in the past 5 years; 22% of males reported spousal violence in previous unions, for a total of 7%.

In 2004, 4% of males reported spousal violence in current unions in the past 5 years; 16% of males reported spousal violence in previous unions, for a total of 6%.

Note: Includes spousal violence common-law partners, but excludes people who refused to state their marital status.
