Percentage of seniors reporting very good or excellent health, by age group and presence of close/other friends, 2003

In both the 65 to 74 and 75 and over age groups, the proportion of elderly people who say they are in very good or excellent health is significantly higher among those who say they have at least one close (or other) friend than among those who say they have no friends. To illustrate, 29% of 65 to 74 year olds who said they have no close friends say they are in very good or excellent health; this proportion is around 45% for those who have at least one close friend.
