Percentage of seniors who describe themselves as very happy, by age group and presence of close and other friends, 2003

In both the 65 to 74 and 75 and over age groups, the proportion of elderly people who say they are in very happy is significantly higher for those who say they have at least one close (or other) friend than for those who say they have no friends. To illustrate, 29% of 65 to 74 year olds who said they have no close friends say they are very happy; this proportion is around 45% for those who have at least one close friend.
