Percentage of persons who eat five or more servings of fruit and vegetables per day, by age group and sex, 2003

This graph illustrates that in both men and women, the proportion of people who eat five or more servings of vegetables a day increases with age. For example, 30% of men between the ages of 25 and 54 ate five or more servings of vegetables a day, compared to around 40% of men between 65 and 74 years and 42% of those aged 75 and up. However, the proportion of women who eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day is considerably higher than the corresponding proportion of men (in all age groups). In the 65 to 74 age group, more than 50% of women eat the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables, compared to 40% of men.
