Percentage of households accessing the Internet from home, by age of household head, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003

This graph indicates that in all age groups of households (age of the head of the household) for which information is given (total, under 35, 35 to 54, 55 to 64 and 65 and over), the proportion of households that have Internet access at home has risen. For example, approximately 12% of households in which the reference person was between the ages of 55 and 64 had Internet access at home in 1997; this proportion rose to around 25% in 1999, 45% in 2001 and 52% in 2003. The graph also shows that households with a reference person 65 years of age and over are least likely of all households to have Internet access at home. In 2003, approximately 23% of these households had Internet access at home, compared to nearly 70% of households whose reference person was between 35 and 54 years of age.
