Notes

For the definition of farm capital, refer to Census terms.

  1. Since 1991, there have been two separate questions on the "Value of land and buildings"-one on rented properties and one on owned properties. As a result, the total reported "Value of land and buildings" since 1991 increased compared with earlier censuses in which some respondents had failed to include rented land.
  2. In 1996, the total value of farmland and buildings owned, and rented or leased from others in Ontario is lower than that reported in 1991. This is primarily because the total value in the four counties bordering on Metropolitan Toronto (Peel, Halton, York and Durham), which account for about 25% of the provincial figure, decreased by 30% between 1991 and 1996.
