Footnotes:

1		This is a count of distinct operators; hence, operators of two or more separate farms were included only once in the total. The figures for the 'total number of operators' variable in this table are derived from Agriculture-Population Linkage 20% sample data, which have been weighted up to represent the entire population. These figures will differ from corresponding figures appearing in the farm operator release tables, which were based on data collected from the entire population.
2		In 1971, female farm labourers who were unpaid family workers and who 'helped without pay' for fewer than 20 hours a week were excluded from the 'Employed' category and classified as 'Not in the labour force.' However, in subsequent censuses this group of female farm labourers has been classified as employed.
3		In the census year 1971, Taiwan was included in China.
4		In the census year 1991, it was called Federated Republic of Germany. In the census year 1986 it included West Germany and East Germany. In the census year 1971 it was called Germany.
5		In the census year 1971, Paraguay was included in Other South America.
6		In the census year 2001 and 1996 Ukraine is included in Former Soviet Eastern Europe Republics. Before the census year 1996, it was part of the U.S.S.R.
7		Before the census year 1991 it was called United States of America.
