A widget is a stand-alone application that can be embedded into third-party websites by any user on a page where they have rights of authorship (e.g., a web page, blog or profile on a social media site) or onto a desktop. Once installed, a widget takes the form of an on-screen tool (e.g., clock, event countdown, daily weather, etc.) and displays featured content directly on the web page or desktop.
Once you have added the widget, live content from Statistics Canada will be sent to the widget automatically. The widget accesses the information from Statistics Canada's website and displays it on your screen. For example, the Latest indicators widget will be updated on your desktop or web page as soon as the data is published to Statistics Canada's website.
