Released: 2017-09-27

Annual demographic estimates by age and sex for Canada, the provinces and the territories as of July 1, 2017, are now available. Revised estimates as of July 1, for the years 2013 to 2016, are also available.

  Note to readers

Estimates released today are based on 2011 Census counts adjusted for census net undercoverage and incompletely enumerated Indian reserves, to which is added the estimated demographic growth for the period from May 10, 2011 to the date of the estimate.

These estimates are not to be confused with the 2016 Census population counts that were released on February 8, 2017. Demographic estimates for Canada, the provinces and the territories based on the 2016 Census counts, adjusted for census net undercoverage, will be available in September 2018 for the total population, and at the end of the fall 2018 for the population by age and sex.
