The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index decreased 0.2% in the third quarter, following a 0.3% rise in the second quarter.
The decline was the result of lower rental prices of construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment (-0.4%). The decrease was partly offset by higher rental prices of office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment (+0.4%).
Year-over-year change
The index rose 0.1% in the third quarter compared with the same quarter of 2016. This was the first year-over-year increase since the fourth quarter of 2014, and followed 10 consecutive quarters of annual declines.
The growth was driven by higher rental prices of office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment (+2.8%). Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment rental prices fell 0.8%, moderating the annual increase.
