New release date for the publication of the December 2018 reference month for Canadian international merchandise trade data

Statistics Canada and the United States Census Bureau (USCB) are working towards a planned joint release date of March 6, 2019 for the publication of December 2018 reference month international merchandise trade statistics. This date may be subject to change in the event of further disruptions of US government functions.
In addition, the release of data for the January 2019 reference month, originally scheduled for March 7, will be delayed. Release dates for subsequent reference months will likely be affected as well, as both statistical agencies work through the processing backlog caused by the shutdown. New publication dates have not yet been established, but will be communicated to the public when they become available.
Statistics Canada will incorporate December 2018 data on Canada's exports to the United States in the fourth quarter releases of Canada's balance of international payments, and gross domestic product, which will be published on February 28 and March 1, respectively. However, considering the unusual circumstances resulting from the temporary closure of the USCB, these statistics could be subject to larger than usual revisions.
