Canadian oilseed processors crushed 9 286 423 tonnes of canola in 2018, up 1.2% from 2017, while the amount of soybeans crushed rose 12.8% to 2 059 277 tonnes. Oil production totalled 4 117 880 tonnes for canola and 381 626 tonnes for soybeans, while meal production totalled 5 172 116 tonnes for canola and 1 595 403 tonnes for soybean.

Canadian canola and soybean processing has grown steadily over the past decade, as a result of significant increases in oilseed production, as well as improvements in crushing facility capacity. In 2018, Canadian processors crushed a higher proportion of soy, due in part to lower soybean prices and higher crush margins.

In the United States, over the 2018 calendar year, oilseed processors crushed 57 126 540 tonnes of soybeans, up 9.4% over 2017, and 1 733 556 tonnes of canola, down 3.9% year over year. Oil production totalled 10 928 748 tonnes for soybeans, and 741 890 tonnes for canola, while meal production totalled 42 098 374 tonnes for soybeans and 980 483 tonnes for canola.
