Prices received by farmers in May for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available at the provincial level.

Hog slaughter and feeder cattle prices strengthened in May compared with April, as meat packing plants that shut down or reduced activities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic began to increase processing capacity.

Grain and oilseed price movements were mixed from April to May. Meanwhile, lentils and dry pea prices increased from April; they have both trended upward during the first months of 2020.

  Note to readers

The price of over 35 commodities is available by province, with some data series going back 40 years. Price data are extracted from administrative files and derived from Statistics Canada surveys.
