The total amount of milk sold off farms decreased 1.8% year over year to 772 626 kilolitres in May. Meanwhile, milk sold off farms for fluid purposes decreased 4.1% to 225 241 kilolitres. Milk sold off farms for industrial purposes decreased 0.9% year over year to 547 384 kilolitres.

Total cash receipts from milk and cream sold off farms amounted to $574.3 million in May, down 2.2% year over year.

Reduced activities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted dairy statistics in recent months. The impact of the pandemic on dairy statistics will continue to be examined in subsequent months.

Dairy statistics are available for Canada and the provinces.

Milk sold off farms, total is the total milk sold from Canadian farms; it includes milk for fluid purposes and milk for industrial purposes.

Milk sold for fluid purposes is milk used for table milk and cream (excluding sour cream).

Milk sold for industrial purposes is milk used for manufactured products such as butter, cheese, yogurt and ice cream.

Data in table 32-10-0001-01 on dairy stocks are as of June 1, 2020, and represent the ending stocks of the previous month.
