Prices received by farmers in September for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available at the provincial level.

Hog slaughter prices continued to trend upward in September, following a gain in August, as strong export demand for pork continued to support these prices. In some provinces, hog slaughter prices for September 2020 began to move above the prevailing prices in September 2019. However, both slaughter cattle and feeder cattle price movements across the provinces were mixed from August to September 2020.

Soybean prices increased in the range of 3.5% to 8.2% across the provinces in September, compared with August, supported by strong export and domestic demand. After a decline in August, lentil prices strengthened in September. Year over year, lentil prices were up 48% in September 2020 in the wake of strong exports.

  Note to readers

The prices of over 35 commodities are available by province, with some data series going back 40 years. Price data are extracted from administrative files and derived from Statistics Canada surveys.
