Prices received by farmers in November for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available at the provincial level.

Slaughter hog prices weakened in November for the first time following consecutive month-over-month increases since August 2020. This was mostly driven by export demand. Despite the decline, prices at the provincial level remained 4.3% to 19.5% higher than the prevailing prices in November 2019.

Slaughter cattle price movements across the provinces were mixed from October to November. Meanwhile, feeder cattle prices posted their second consecutive decline in November as meat packers continued to work through the backlog of cattle resulting from COVID-19-related processing disruptions.

Dry pea and lentil prices increased for the second consecutive month in November. Similarly, flaxseed, canola and soybean prices continued to rise in November after an October gain, as export demand remained strong.

  Note to readers

The prices of over 35 commodities are available by province, with some data series going back 40 years. Price data are extracted from administrative files and derived from Statistics Canada surveys.
