Statistics Canada has launched the "Physical flow account for energy use: Interactive tool." This interactive dashboard provides Canadians with the ability to graph trends in energy use over time for selected industries and household categories. It also displays the year-over-year changes in total energy use in Canada, the top five energy use sectors for Canada by year and the proportion of energy use by aggregate sector by year.

The dashboard currently displays data up to 2018 and shows what the energy use trends looked like prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. As they become available, data for more recent reference periods will show whether the confinement due to COVID-19 has had an impact on the trends.

  Note to readers

Statistics Canada's physical flow accounts record the annual flows of selected natural resources, products and residuals between the Canadian economy and the environment. Data are presented to reflect the activities of industries, households and governments, and follow the classification system of industries and commodities used in Statistics Canada's supply and use tables.

The dashboard will be continually updated with the most recent data from the physical flow account for energy use (38-10-0096-01). For a link to the dashboard and more about the latest in energy information in Canada, visit the Canadian Centre for Energy Information website.
