OTTAWA — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister Responsible for Statistics Canada, and the Chief Statistician of Canada have agreed to launch an independent third party review of the early release of economic data by Statistics Canada, as well as a general review of Statistics Canada’s data release procedures.

As a result of a competitive process, KPMG has been selected to conduct the review, which will be completed by March 31, 2011. The final report will be provided to the Minister Responsible for Statistics Canada.

As part of the review, Statistics Canada will provide KPMG with the results to date of its own internal examination of the early release of economic data.
