OTTAWA — Statistics Canada is reinstating the University and College Academic Staff System.
The survey provides a national picture of the socio-economic characteristics of full-time academic staff at universities across Canada. “Statistics Canada is meeting the requirement for high-quality data from researchers, government and the university community,” said the agency.
Statistics Canada conducted the survey annually from 1937 to 2011, then suspended its activities to meet its savings targets under Budget 2012. To close the data gap that resulted from the program interruption, Statistics Canada will work in collaboration with academic institutions to gather data from 2012 to 2015.
The University and College Academic Staff System provides governments, higher education institutions, researchers and policy analysts with a detailed portrait of full-time academic staff, including gender, age, principal subject taught, academic rank, salary and administrative stipends, province or country of degrees earned.
Collection begins in September 2016 and the first series of results for 2016-2017 will be released in April 2017.
