Statistical Survey Operations

Within Statistics Canada, the role of Statistical Survey Operations (SSO) is to carry out the collection of survey data for statistical programs.

SSO is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) and handles its own recruitment. For this reason, SSO uses a different staffing process and its terminology may not be the same.

Please refer to the Public Service Commission site for opportunities that are subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA).

The interviewers are critical to the success of Statistical Survey Operations. Without their efforts in conducting interviews, collecting survey information, and obtaining the desired survey results, Statistics Canada would not have the diverse data required to analyze or disseminate.

Data collected at Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada is responsible for the collection of a wide variety of data from Canadian businesses and households. These data are collected through a number of surveys, including the Census of Population, Census of Agriculture, regular monthly surveys, and ad-hoc surveys. The collected data are critical to all levels of government, Canadian businesses, and individuals, in making planning decisions.

Statistics Canada prides itself on collecting the most accurate data possible while at the same time ensuring the highest degree of professionalism of its employees. Maintaining the confidentiality of the information provided to us by individuals and businesses is of the utmost importance to our organization, and critical in making Statistics Canada the “number one data collection agency” in the world.

The head office of Statistics Canada is located in Ottawa. There are three regions: the Eastern region, the Central region, and the Western and Northern Territories region. Call centres are located in Halifax, Sherbrooke, Toronto, Sturgeon Falls, Winnipeg and Edmonton. Personal interviewing jobs are available across the country, covering both urban and rural areas.
