Jan: Statistics Canada data is crucial to our work. We help over 2,000 organizations: businesses, governments, and not for profits in Canada make their organizations more successful using data and analytics. All the data that we produce and provide use best practices and a wide variety of data sources, but the key source is Statistics Canada's official statistic to normalize, benchmark, and make sure that the data are as accurate as possible so that they can be used in Canadian businesses and other organizations to make better decisions about their business.

Jan: So, data are used for all kinds of decisions: policy decisions in government, social service planning, and business decisions. And Statistics from Statistics Canada inform all of the data that help decide where to put stores, what to put in stores, how do organize fire and police departments, and how neighborhoods can be organized. These data from Statistics Canada make people's lives better. If you go into a grocery store, and you can't find the products on the shelves that are important to your lifestyle or stage of life, you know the data hasn't been used effectively to plan that service. And at the same time all kinds of decisions about how people's health care services are provided in other social services are governed by Statistics Canada data which are very important to the lives of Canadians.
