The Chief Statistician of Canada moderated a panel discussion at the 51st annual United Nations Statistical Commission

Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada moderated a panel discussion at the 51st annual United Nations Statistical Commission titled, "The Right to Privacy and the Need for Statistical Information Necessity and Proportionality."

The Chief Statistician highlighted Statistics Canada's Necessity and Proportionality Framework at a panel discussion during the 51st annual United Nations Statistics Commission. This framework is the result of work with statistical, academic and business experts from around the world, as well as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. It ensures new statistical methods enable the agency to gather only the amount of data required to be representative of the population and to effectively answer policy questions.

At Statistics Canada, protecting Canadians' private information is a commitment, built into our day-to-day work and our culture. Your information has always – and will always be – protected.

As we chart new paths and methods of collecting data, respecting and protecting the rightful privacy of Canadians sits at the heart of everything we do.
