OTTAWA — The release of International Merchandise Trade data is postponed to November 14, 2013.

The temporary shutdown of the U.S. Government has delayed the delivery of U.S. trade data to Statistics Canada. As a result, Statistics Canada is postponing the release of Canada’s International Merchandise Trade data to November 14, 2013. The release for the September reference period was originally planned for November 5.

Approximately three quarters of Canada’s exports go to the U.S. Under a 1990 agreement, the countries use each other’s import data in lieu of their own export data. Numerous stakeholders and data users rely on these data for their trade and business activities.

All other economic indicators are not affected. They will be released by Statistics Canada as planned.
