As Canada continues to celebrate its 150th anniversary, Canadians will soon get a glimpse into one of the sectors that has played a leading role in the story of their nation.

On May 10, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time, Statistics Canada will release the results from the 2016 Census of Agriculture. This comprehensive collection of data touches on everything from the numbers of farms, their average size and the commodities they produce to the people who run them including their age, gender and how much they work both on and off the farm.

In addition to the information provided in The Daily, Statistics Canada will publish a series of analytical and reference products profiling the agriculture sector in each province across the country and examining the commodities produced in Canada.

Other topics to be covered in the first release and in a series of articles in the weeks to follow include direct marketing, technology, organic operations, energy, livestock, field crops and irrigation.
