CAED software

New applicants must complete, sign and forward the CAED application form to Statistics Canada by fax or mail PRIOR to downloading the Canadian Automated Export Declaration (CAED) software.

Current users do not need to complete the CAED application form when upgrading to a newer version of the CAED software. However, if upgrading the CAED software from version 10.00 or earlier, users should ensure Microsoft .Net framework 3.5 and Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 are installed on their computer. Once this has been confirmed, simply click on the link at the bottom of this page "CAED Software 2018 version 18.00" and follow the directions.

Always backup your CAED database before upgrading to the newest version of the CAED software.

The 2017 version of CAED will expire on January 31, 2018 after which time only the 2018 version will be valid. The 2018 version will be the last update to CAED and will be valid until it is retired in January 2020.

The CAED program will be replaced by a new export reporting system, the Canadian Export Reporting System (CERS), by January 2020. The CBSA and Statistics Canada have mutually agreed to retire CAED due to its aging technology. CERS is being designed by the CBSA to meet current export program requirements while providing flexibility to allow for future enhancements. The CBSA will engage industry stakeholders to seek feedback on the system design and roll-out strategy.

CERS will be a web-based solution that will enable exporters to report their export goods. It includes the same data requirements as CAED and will be designed to accept summary reporting of eligible goods. The CBSA will be implementing the new system in mid-2019, in order to allow a six month transition period for the onboarding of all current CAED users. There will be more information on both the CBSA and Statistics Canada websites available to exporters about the transition of export reporting from CAED to the new reporting system prior to its implementation.

Minimum system requirements

  • Microsoft Windows 10/ 8 / 7 / VISTA / XP Service Pack 3 (or later)
  • Microsoft .Net framework 3.5
  • Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010
    • AccessDatabaseEngine.exe, NOT AccessDatabaseEngine_X64.exe
    • Special instructions for users with Office 2010 64-bit installed

      Users with Office 2010 64-bit installed will not be able to install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010, which is 32-bit software. These users will have to install Microsoft Office Access 2007 Data Connectivity Components. Users that are upgrading from a previous version of CAED should already have this 2007 software installed. New users will have to download and install the software from the Microsoft site here: Microsoft Office Access 2007 Data Connectivity Components.

  • VGA monitor or better with minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768.

It is strongly recommended that all users review the Installation Guide prior to downloading the software.

The file "CAED2018_v18.00.exe" is an executable file. First, save the file into a temporary directory (i.e. c:\temp). Then, double click on the file name from your Windows Explorer and the installation process will begin.
