During the survey, we will ask your permission for data sharing. This agreement will allow Statistics Canada to share your anonymous answers with provincial ministries of health, Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. If you agree to share your information with these government organizations, they are also required by law to protect your confidentiality.
Agreeing to share also means that in many cases the provinces will not have to collect this information through their own surveys. This leads to several key benefits:
- it reduces the burden on respondents by collecting data only once
- it reduces the cost of data collection
- it allows those responsible for health care services (provincial ministries of health) to work directly with the survey information
- it improves the usefulness and quality of the data.
The shared data will not contain any personal information that could identify you or your family.
