- In 2022, Indigenous gross domestic income (GDI) reached $60.2 billion, up 9.8% from 2021. This represented 2.3% of Canada’s total GDI. The fastest growth was in the arts, entertainment and recreation (+30.6%) and the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+21.1%) sectors. Combined, these sectors accounted for 6.8% of Indigenous GDI.
- About 90% of Indigenous-owned businesses are small (fewer than 10 employees), with 31.4% located in rural areas.
