There were 179,814 new motor vehicles sold in Canada in July 2025, increasing 6.8% from July 2024. Sales in dollar terms were up 4.7% over the same period. Gains were observed in both the passenger cars (+11.1%) and trucks (+6.2%) subsegments.
In July 2025, 13,920 new zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) were sold, representing a decline of one-third (-33.7%) compared with one year earlier. ZEVs comprised 7.7% of total new motor vehicles sold in July.
Note to readers
The term "zero-emission vehicle" (ZEV) refers to any motor vehicle that has the potential to produce no tailpipe emissions. The ZEV category includes battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
