Percentage of persons who changed residences in previous five years, by age group, Canada, 1981, 1991 and 2001

This graph illustrates that in all age groups (25 to 54 years, 55 to 64 years, 65 to 74 years, 75 to 84 years and 85 years and up), the proportion of people who had moved in the previous five years was lower in 2001 than in 1991 and 1981. For example, the proportion of individuals in the 65 to 74 age group who had moved between 1996 and 2001 was around 20%. In comparison, this proportion was 27% between 1976 and 1981.
