Percentage of Canadians residing in Census metropolitan areas, by age group, 1981 and 2001

This graph shows the evolution of the proportion of people who lived in metropolitan regions between 1981 and 2001 by age group (25 to 54 years, 55 to 64 years, 65 to 74 years, 75 to 84 years and 85 years and over). In all age groups, there was an increase in the population who lived in a metropolitan region. For example, the proportion in the 65 to 74 age group rose from approximately 55% in 1981 to around 60% in 2001. The scenario is almost identical in the 75 to 84 and 85 and over age groups.
