Selected purposes of computer use, by age group, 2003

This graph shows the proportion of people who used a computer for the Internet, to write and edit texts, to play games and to read information on CDs or DVDs. The message of the graph is that for all these activities, the youngest people (between the ages of 26 and 35) are more likely than the oldest to use a computer. As such, approximately 80% of people between the ages of 26 and 35 had used a computer to write or edit texts, compared to around 73% of people between 36 and 45 years, 71% of 46 to 55 year olds and 62% of those aged 56 to 65. In all age groups, the computer was used the least to play games. In 2003, around 45% of people between 56 and 65 years had used a computer for this purpose.
