This graph shows that the proportion of elderly people who live alone is significantly higher in the 85 and over age group than in the 75 to 84 and 65 to 74 groups. This holds true for all periods of immigration. In addition, the graph indicates that the more recent the period of immigration, the lower the probability of an elderly person living alone. For instance, slightly more than 50% of non-immigrant elderly people 85 years and up lived alone, compared to less than 40% of those who came to Canada between 1961 and 1970 and less than 20% of immigrants between 1991 and 2001 in the same age group.
