Percentage of seniors with a post-secondary certificate or a university degree, by period of immigration, 1981, 1991 and 2001

This graph indicates that between 1981 and 2001, the proportion of elderly people who had a post-secondary diploma increased among non-immigrants, recent immigrants and long-term immigrants. For example, approximately 15% of elderly long-term immigrants held a post-secondary diploma in 1981. This percentage increased to just over 32% in 2001. Elderly non-immigrants had a smaller increase, with the proportion rising from around 16% in 1981 to nearly 25% in 2001.
