Percentage of population comprised of seniors, selected towns with populations of 25,000 or more, 2001

This graph compares the proportion of elderly people in the population of certain average-size cities (population of 25,000 and over). The two cities with the highest proportions of people aged 65 and over in their population are Penticton, British Columbia and Thetford Mines, Quebec (19% and 24%, respectively). Two cities in Alberta, Wood Buffalo (2%) and Grande Prairie (6%), have the lowest proportion of people in this age group. The main message given by this graph is that there are considerable differences between cities of this size in the representation of people 65 years and up in their population.
