Immigrant seniors, by period of immigration and age group, 2001

This graph presents information for four age groups of immigrants: 65 and over, 65 to 74, 75 to 84, and 85 and over. In all these age groups, the biggest proportion of immigrants came to Canada before 1961. For example, in the 75 to 84 age group, approximately 60% of immigrants came to Canada before 1961, 13% between 1961 and 1970, 11% between 1971 and 1980 and around 7% between 1991 and 2001. However, for those between the ages of 65 and 74, the proportion of people who arrived before 1961 is lower (just under 50%), whereas just over 10% of these immigrants came to Canada between 1991 and 2001.
